This past Monday I had the chance to photograph models in an “on-location” atmosphere. The school arranged use of a historic local theater in Asheboro, NC. It was crowded inside with all the other students… so I did a few shots in the alley out back. I’m still working on my portrait skills, especially where location lighting is concerned, but I feel this is an improvement… which is always nice… will

How-To … Part 1

I was tasked with photographing a how-to over the weekend, so I decided to do How-To make Poached Pears. First you will need to gather this list of ingredients:

1/2 cup red/white wine

1/2 cup water

1/3 cup sugar (brown) / molasses

1 whole vanilla bean / or 2 tbsp vanilla

2 firm pears

2 cinnamon sticks

star anise


Peeler/Spoon/Knife/Micro Grater

How-To … Part 2

After you’ve pealed and cored out your pears, you will need to bring your wine/water/sugar/vanilla/spices to a boil. The real flavor of this recipe will come from what particular spices you add to your pears… There is no real right or wrong.. except for mayo… so feel free to add something, drop something from the recipe.. It’s all about personal  preference when it comes to cooking.

Once all your components are in the pot… gently place the pears into your lovelycooking concoction … and decrease heat to medium heat. This part will take about 25-30 minutes (until pears are soft).

Now that the pears have gently simmered for 30 minutes (until soft) .. you remove the pears and turn the heat up to a strong boil to reduce the contents of the pot. Once that has been significantly reduced you spoon out some liquid and pour over the pears and ice creampear.

Now all you have to do is add a little ice cream and serve….


I would have posted a final pic of it all together.. but switching my lighting set-up before the ice cream melted was not possible.. and the photos I had of all in one bowl were.. let’s say… less than appealing..

So now we’re all done and have learned how to make a particularly tasty dessert.

Day/Night Assignment

The following photo is for an assignment called Day/Night … or something like that. We were supposed to take an underexposed photograph during the day… then go back and flash various elements in the photograph… then compile the images together. The end result, which I was never really clear what that was supposed to be… was a dark image with a few things lit up … for the photoshop practice I can only assume. Executive Portraits

Here is one of my latest assignments for James Walters in Commercial Photography at RCC. I was supposed to take 3 in studio (non-Sears) portraits immulating an executive style portrait. I, however, suck at this kind of thing so I’m still stuck in ultra cheese lighting and posing. I apologize for the following images, but, I have to post them or I get no credit 😦 …. so without further ado….
